LibreOffice 5.4 is released!

On Friday, 28 July, the Document Foundation announced the 5.4 release of LibreOffice, the go-to open source office suite for the masses.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Documents created in the new release are about 50% smaller than before
  • Compatibility with some file formats has been improved:
    • PDF imports are rendered with better quality
    • Greater support for EMF vector images has been added
    • This release sports a new standard color palette:
  • Support for using OpenPGP keys for signing ODF documents on Linux
But that's not all. There is a host of improvements to each of the applications:

Writer can import AutoText from Microsoft Word DOTM templates, has better export of bulleted lists, includes custom watermarks and a new context menu for working with sections, footnotes, endnotes and styles.

Calc now has support for pivot charts with real time updates, easier managing of comments, easy prioritization of conditional formatting, extra sheet protection and it remembers settings for CSV export.
